The small creek, almost a drain, that required the bridge to exist 28 from the north side One of the two culverts required to complete the works side on shot. a few from rail height up the first hill from healesville Assesing the first pile One bolt off, one half through ready to attack the first pile After removing the bracing, we were greeted with this little delight Pile on the left, 2LO was ok, but termites have destroyed it in the last 2 years, the one next to it, 2LI was supposed to be first. Old 2LO, showing termites in the heart. The small white flecks are termites, millions of them. Birds had a field day eating them all Base of 2LO, the sill for this plant was perfect and was reused. The timber on 2LI is similar to a sinking pile cradle, but was common to all piles on this line when first installed. I.e this ones from 1889. New pile ready to install Showing the new 2LO prior to final lining up Under the water theres a good redgum sill, i swear it. Close enough Old 2LI half removed. Final cut for the splice will be another 400mm below this. New pile ready to install. The muck we work in. After a few weeks of average Yarra Valley winter rainfail (ie everythings flooded) the bracing is starting to go back onto span 2 the removed 3RO showing 3RI with its craddle, again dating that pile at 1889. Under the water is a timber sill, which will house the new 3RO Im sure there should be another pile there 3RI getting its finishing touches from the chippies. Its easy, just pick it up and put it in the hole. Its that easy Now the bridge can sit on the new outer while the inner is removed Prep on the new inner The inner is removed with some handy chainsaw work

First two coats of VR Royal Blue paint. After this it had another coat to smooth the final and add gloss. First burn off at 38 mile bridge. Work in the area will create many cubic meters of termite infested timber What happens when you wind the jack up too high The first completed first class seat is trial fitted in RM22. Paint has almost finished internal, just floors, seats and windows to go Workshops starting to play with the firemans side cylinders

Looking in the down direction, span 6 in bits, the two inners in the process of replacement. The new 7RI pile ready to be but spliced The First two assembled steel beam sets on site. All bar two spans now placed, with deck layed on spans 8 - 13. This is the new deck to be used on the middle spans. The up end. All the spans are layed except 6 and 7, these piles being put in on the day the photo was taken, Saturday 1st of March 2008 More deck and under all that the 100 sleepers to redo the track Wal has a lay down, as the majority of the deck work has been completed Brian welding the beams to the heel plates that attach the beams to the crossheads End of the day, Monday the 3rd of march, will all the deck in and the kerbs starting to be attached. New bridge looks good. Works train on the bridge, August 2nd 2008

RM22's Power unit in the sun for the first time in 5 months Extensive Crack testing and repair, Compressor overhaul and Almost complete re-wiring has taken longer than expected Entering 4 road to be reunited with its other half Track gang working on Healesville Yard Receiving black paint to the frame and wheels Good old Civil Branch The pigstye that held the trailer alloft. Note the recently repaired control cabling. Paul surveys the black paint on the power unit ready to re join Back together at last, Saturday 19th August 2007 Ready to pull apart again. RM22 complete for almost a day Ready to lift the trailing bogie Rear Bogie ready for crack detection the removal of brake dust begins. After removal, the underframe is indeed still painted black. New black on the old The Brake cylinder already checked, crack detection in the next week will see the bogie returned to the body in a weeks time.
